My Take on YPN! vs. AdSense

Others have written their own reviews of YPN! but I have seen very few cover both the pros and cons. It seems like every review I have has been very biased and didn’t really help anyone see the benefits of either or; the authors of these articles have just tried to steer readers to one or the other without providing insight as to why. So I thought I would cover important aspects of each to help give people a better understanding.

$$$ man, $$$! I need to know!

Well just about any review will tell you this, Yahoo is paying quite nicely right now. Much of this has to do with the fact that they are still in beta and have fewer advertisers to pay than Google does. Within the first month of using YPN! I managed to earn about triple of what I would typically make from AdSense. Keep in mind, I only ran it on one site that month.

However, I will state that YPN! is highly inconsistent. On Google you know what most clicks earn you, sure you might have a couple freak ads a day which pay extremely well; sky rocketing your earnings. However, with Yahoo every click is a freak click. You could have 10 on one site and it would be worth $50. The next day you could have 50 and it could possibly only be worth $70. It is highly inconsistent.

The Ads

Both have the same appearance for the most part. So there is no need to talk about the visual differences, rather we need to focus on the differences that the reader doesn’t see.

Right now YPN! doesn’t have as many publishers as Google does; so often times you serve up duplicate ads and/or irrelevant ads. Aiding to this is Google’s superior algorithm. Google manages to serve targeted ads up better than anyone else. YPN! is not terrible, yet its algorithm still does not compare to the one Google has devised.

The Administration

This is where the two are fairly equal. Both of the control panels for each of these services are nearly one of the same. You have your reports, ad setup and all those other features no one really uses.

The one thing that Google does better is updating. YPN! rarely updates or they update back to back. I’m not compulsive but I typically do check my earnings twice a day, three if I get bored at work. And often times I am presented with numbers that haven’t been updated since the last time I checked…even though there may be 8 hours difference in between those viewings.

Final Conclusion

Both services are what they are; they provide targeted ads to those who wish to make some money off their site. However, Google provides better targeted ads than YPN! does and YPN! absolutely pays out more than AdSense does (at the moment). They are both going to be around for a while; and eventually you will see it come out to no real difference between the two other than user preference.
